Like Nolvadex, Clomid binds strongly to estrogen receptors, but has only mild estrogenic properties. In this way, it occupies the estrogen receptors and stronger estrogens, such as estradiol, cannot bind and are eventually broken down by the body without having an effect. This means that Clomid, like Nolvadex, is a SERM (Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulator), it does not prevent the formation of estrogen, as aromatase inhibitors (Proviron, Armidex and Femara) do. Where Nolvadex has a positive effect on the body’s own hormone production, Clomid has a slightly negative effect on this.
